Obviously europeans are popular these days. After the engagement of the French Anthony Dablé, it’s the turn of a German player to impress. And like a good German, he did it properly. After his Pro Day, all the attention was only for WR Moritz Boehringer and his unbelievable performance in the Florida Atlantic stadium, in front of Dablatron and Osi Umenyiora ! The young German actually trains indeed with Anthony Dablé at XPE Sports center.
The hype around this player started a bit before his Pro Day and many scouts was at FAU to see Boehringer. And the less we can say that’s he hasn’t disappointed. From unknown he became in one afternoon a big sleeper, rated as a high 4th rounder.
But let’s get to the facts. First, WR Moritz Boehringer ran his 40 yards dash in 4’43 with a 39 inches vertical jump, 10-foot-11 broad jump, 17 reps on the bench press and ran record times in different position drills, disorientating scouts out there.
It’s just a top-5 WR performance at Scouting Combine in last February. His 4’43 on grass should be 4’39 in turf if he ran at Indianapolis, which would be the second best run of Wide Receivers at Combine ! Without forgetting his excellent position drills that were perfect despite passes not always well given by his Quarterback. Curious to see what he’s capable to do on press coverage, some scouts asked to Defensive Backs there to press him, what he did without any troubles.
What makes the Boehringer performance even more remarkable, it’s his 6’4 for 222 pounds, closer than a NFL Tight End profile. At least two teams wanted to see his technics to block as TE, what he did very quickly after some corrections by coaches.
Besides flattering comparisons with WR Mike Evans of Bucs, he’s more a Devis Funchess of Panthers or Dorial Green-Beckham from Titans, two players drafted at the second round.
« I came here today knowing what I needed to do, But I didn’t realize there was going to be so many people watching me. » Said the very quiet Moritz Boehringer in perfect English which bring us to our phallus condition in English.
At the end of the day, numerous scouts wanted to talk to him and Patriots, Packers, Vikings, Broncos and Chiefs looked the most interested. The Chiefs GM especially asked to meet him at Kansas City. Vikings met him before his Pro Day to sign him as free agent after the Draft but today, they will have to give a draft pick if they want him, now he entered the debates of the Draft.
There is only one problem, scouts have difficulties to evaluate him because he used to play in Germany only since 4 years and even he was one of the best players there, the level is very far from the College Football level in USA. But it doesn’t stop him to become one of the most big sleepers, what is very encouraging for most of us. After his excellent Pro Day, The Americans are already training to pronounce his name for the end of the month. Moritz Boehringer will be a player to develop but he has for sure the qualities to succeed in NFL.
The 22 years player began Football in 2013 with the Crailsheim Titans in Junior team, before to come in first division of GFL last year. He became the Rookie of The Year after 70 catches for 1 461 yards and 16 TDs with the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns.
In the 24 hours following Moritz Boehringer‘s impressive pro-day workout, seven teams have scheduled visits with the German wide receiver included Chicago, Los Angeles, Carolina, Kansas City, Minnesota and Denver.
